About Us

The Laredo Little Theatre is dedicated to serving our community by providing a valuable service.

Mission Statement

Founded in 1911, the mission of the Laredo Little Theater is to preserve, develop and promote the arts and culture in Laredo and our surrounding communities. The scope of the theatre’s programming varies in each of the following: theater arts, dance and music. While incorporating aspects of acting technique (including voice and movement), the focus is on individual creative expression and performance in a safe, collaborative environment. Theater is used as a tool for enhancing self-esteem, developing language and communication skills, strengthening cultural identity, increasing academic and vocational skill sets, and promoting literacy in both English and Spanish.

The Laredo Little Theatre has been in existence since 1911, when Market Hall was the scene of a spectacular musical presentation. Aloysius J. Notzon was the founder of “Amateur Theatre” in 1923 and served, as its first director. Mrs. A. B. Galo was with the original group. The production, “Her Song,” a musical with a cast of 85, was
presented in 1928 in cooperation with the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association. During World War II, “ HMS Pinafore” was presented in cooperation with Special Services from the Laredo Gunnery School. In 1953, The Laredo Little Theatre was re-organized with the presentation of “One Foot in Heaven,” directed by Larry Clark, from the
Laredo Air Force Base. 1959 saw the beginning of the summer musicals with the presentation of “The Boyfriend.”  This was followed by “Damn Yankees,” “Bye Bye Birdie,” “My Fair Lady” and “Little Mary Sunshine.” Anyone having an interest in becoming part of the activities of the
Laredo Little Theatre is always welcomed to participate at LLT. There are no active memberships for those who would like to act, or to assist with the myriad backstage activities. The Laredo Little Theatre is comprised of Laredo residents who have at least one thing in common: a great consuming interest in the promotion of the performing arts. LLT' s season consists of four productions throughout the year and Comedy Jam For George a Washington Birthday Celebration Association event held in February.

As we celebrate our first 100 year anniversary,
we are looking forward to serving our community for the next 100 years.

Laredo Little Theatre Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit all volunteer organization. Donations are always welcomed.
